GoHen Go to Edinburgh

by

Having organised many successful Edinburgh hen parties, Simon, our Edinburgh Destination Specialist decided that it’s time GoHen visits the vibrant city too!

But before he had the time to pack his favourite kilt, Andy, our Tech Team Leader took off to the Scottish capital.

When he came back, he went through his notes with Vicki, our Event Manager for Scotland and shared the following tips:

Andy on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh

The Things You Need to Know… 👀

  • The St James Quarter is the best spot for shopping and the surrounding area is packed with nightlife hotspots.
  • The Royal Mile is the best for buying gifts and souvenirs.
  • Exploring the Old Town is a must!
  • Whether you’re a Harry Potter fan or not, Victoria Street is absolutely worth the visit!

How Was Getting to Edinburgh? ✈️

“It was very easy!

“The airport is just outside the city, so I just hopped on the tram and headed straight to the city centre to check into my accommodation.

“The trip was 30 minutes and cost only £9.50 for an open return which was so great, as I could use the same ticket to go back to the airport at the end of my trip!

“You can also catch a taxi or a bus from the Arrivals zone, but, if you opt for the tram like I did, you won’t have to deal with any traffic!”

What Were Your First Impressions? 💭

The Royal Mile

“It’s a city like no other, and the Old Town is super cool!

“I got to see Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile which were amazing and got me very excited about exploring the rest of the tourist attractions like Victoria Street.”

What Are Cool Places to Grab a Bite in Edinburgh? 🥞

Frankenstein & Oink

The Dome – 14 George St, Edinburgh EH2 2PF

“Located in Edinburgh’s New Town, this place is like four different spots in one – it has a Georgian tearoom, a bar, a brasserie with an a la carte menu, and a club room which is like the main restaurant.

“If you’re a bigger group, remember to reserve your tables as The Dome is very popular.”

Duck and Waffle – St James Quarter, 400-402 St James Square, Edinburgh EH1 3AE

“What attracted me to this place was the mouth-watering breakfast menu!

“I enjoyed a traditional Scottish breakfast which was absolutely delicious.”

Tigerlilly – 125 George St, Edinburgh EH2 4JN

“It’s known as ‘the most Instagrammable bar’ in Edinburgh and it’s obvious why!

“It had beautiful hanging flower decors and although many locals and tourists visit because of how picturesque it is, the menu is just as good.”

What Was Your Accommodation? 🏨

“I stayed in Roomzzz Edinburgh on Princes Street, which was a great choice for being close to the local nightlife.

“My self-catering apartment had a soft bed, a modern en-suite and a lovely kitchenette that I used to rustle up a quick brunch before I went out.

“It took just 15 minutes to walk to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle from this accommodation, so I recommend checking it out!”

Is It Easy to Walk in Edinburgh? 🚶‍♀️‍➡️

“I was surprised by how easy it was to walk around the city.

“A quick, 2-minute walk can take you from the Royal Mile to Victoria Street, and once you’re there, you can also visit the Grassmarker Square.

“There are many great bars and restaurants over there that will have something for everyone in the group to enjoy!

“And if you’re not that keen on walking, you can just hop on the tram which is not only cheap but convenient for avoiding traffic too.”

Any Recommendations?

“Definitely visit the Royal Mile while in Edinburgh, as it’s such a unique and fun place to be.

“The Camera Obscura and World of Illusions was something I’ve never experienced before, and I highly recommend it!

“I got to see over a hundred illusions and also enjoyed some of the most scenic rooftop views of Edinburgh that made my last night there truly memorable.”
