- Bars, shops, nightlife, sights – everything is easy to reach with a short walk.
- It took us less than an hour to walk through the entire city.
- If you’re driving up there, leave your car in the nearest Park & Ride.
- Don’t forget to check out Little Stonegate Street for the best party hotspots.
Getting There 🚆
- Car – “It didn’t take us long to realise that there weren’t many places to park outside of the six Park & Ride facilities located on the outskirts, so we definitely recommend heading straight to them if you’re driving.”
- Train – “If you’re taking the train, life is going to be much easier. The train station is located just a 15-minute walk outside the city centre and taxis are waiting around that can take you to your accommodation.”
Top Tip
“As the spaces are so limited due to how compact the city is, parking could be pricey, so it’s best to either share a car and split the costs or take the train!”
What Were Your First Impressions? 💭
“As with any historic city, York also comes with cobbles and uneven curbs!
“So, even though everything you’d want to see and try is always going to be just a short walk away, you have to be very wary if you are going to brave the heels!”
Where to Stay? 🏨
“We stayed in this 4-star Moxy York and it didn’t let us down.
“The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the facilities were great.
“They have a games area and a bar in the lobby which was everything we needed to kick-start the night.
“We felt very lucky because we woke up just in time for breakfast, which was a mix of a self-service continental buffet with WAFFLES!”
How Easy Was it to Get Around the City? 🚶♀️➡️
“It was super easy.
“One of the city’s unique features is that it’s surrounded by a 2.5-kilometre-long wall, and you can walk around the whole thing.
“We got from one side to the other in about 45 minutes, but if you have time to kill you can jump on a Hop-on Hop-off bus like we did and let it take you around which is honestly a life hack.”

“We absolutely recommend heading to Little Stonegate as the area has enough bars to guarantee you won’t have a dull moment during your evening.
