Cake me up! After 10 months of nearly cakeless living, apart from the odd cupcake (too small, doesn’t count), occasional doughnut (not really a cake is it?), and chocolate brownie addiction (it’s a medical condition), we couldn’t be more excited. Not only is our favourite TV show, The Great British Bake Off, returning to our screens, but it’s also time to announce the country’s finest icing artists, the Top 50 Wedding Cake Designers of 2019.
So grab a tasting fork and dive right in!

Nina’s Cakey Bakies
Everything about Cakey Bakies is top drawer. Even the name makes us smile. However, despite all the fun and sugary artistry, Nina and her team actually provide highly refined wedding cakes and the kind of customer service that makes Nina a natural choice for our Top 50 for the third year running. Yes, she really is that good.
Karen’s Clever Cakes
We’re not sure how Karen’s Cakes would do on Mastermind but there certainly is a great deal of genius from the brilliant mind behind these beautiful cakes. From traditional tiered cakes to wonderful sculptures, we were particularly blown away by her fun sandcastle cake and can’t wait to see what Karen comes up with next.
Piece of Cake
PoC is proof that not only can you have your cake and eat it, but it doesn’t have to cost the earth. With over a decade of experience, this family-run business even got singled out by the team on BBC’s Countryfile making a cake for John Craven. And if it’s good enough for Mr Craven then they have earnt their place on this year’s Top 50.
Fancie Buns
Fancie Buns are special, of course, you want your wedding cake to be a statement piece and to wow your guests, but you don’t want style over substance. And that’s where the Fancie team come in”{ De-luxe-ious } – a luxury cake that tastes as incredible as it looks”. It’s right there, a company mission statement and mouth-watering, attention-grabbing, works of art are what follow thanks to designer-in-chief Emma’s passion and dedication. Even her website is an absolute joy.

Cake By Sadie Smith
Is it weird to admit we want to stalk Sadie? Here’s the thing, this absolute cake maestro has an occasional pop-up cake shop. So you don’t have to wait for a special occasion or invent a birthday just to order one of her cakes. You can simply wait in your car, around the corner, staring at the shop door so you’ll be first in line… And we believe the wait is worth it!
The Crumb Factory
While we absolutely love the name (because we’ve never met a cake which didn’t soon become nothing but a few crumbs), what has elevated Sally and her team to this year’s top 50 is the overwhelming customer feedback. But that takes nothing away from the incredible lightness of touch and precision work to create beautifully animated flowers, towers and innovative designs.
