Planning a wedding can be a worrying and at times fraught task, wedding site The Knotā€™s Real Wedding Survey revealed that “50% [of brides] found that planning their wedding was more stressful than they expected”. For some nearly-weds the best stress relief can come in the form of expert help from a wedding planner.

GoHen asked some of the UKā€™s best wedding planners for a few top wedding planning tips to help keep things under control for your big day.

Whatā€™s the best way to beat stress on the big day?

Check and double check. This is where a good planner will be invaluable. My ā€˜final checkā€™ service includes contacting all suppliers to ensure they have the right timings, names, delivery addresses, quantities, sizes, special request information, etc, etc. ALWAYS get a mobile/emergency number for suppliers in case of any difficulties. Once done, you just have to sit back, relax and trust that you have done everything possible to make your day wonderful.

Any tips for couples who want to save a few pennies when planning their big day?

Take help when offered…the aunty who wants to make your cake, the friend who loves making stationery, the neighbour who has a beautiful car… as long as you trust them, people contributing to your day in lieu of a present can create very personal touches and save a fortune. Also, visit lots of good quality wedding fairs ā€“ suppliers often have special offers available if you book at, or just after, a wedding fair.

What is your top tip for someone planning their wedding?

As soon as you book your venue, start to look around for the best suppliers. The best florists, cake makers etc get booked up years in advance but all will take bookings on basic information ie table centres for about 10 tables and roughly 3 bridesmaids bouquets etc . They donā€™t need finer details ā€“ flower type, colours ā€“ until nearer the event. Brides donā€™t realise you can reserve suppliers time without knowing the full details of your day. Also, ALWAYS get special deals, discounts and full descriptions of what you have booked, with prices, in writing. Invaluable.
